Know Your Graders

Not all slabs are created equal, but value can be found in all of them.

PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator)

The king of the market. PSA commands the highest resale value, but also the highest grading fees. Their red and white label is iconic.

Strategy: Buy PSA 8s. The "PSA Premium" often doesn't trickle down to lower grades as aggressively as it does for 9s and 10s.

SGC (Sportscard Guaranty Corporation)

Known for the "Tuxedo" black insert. SGC is gaining massive ground and is often preferred for vintage cards due to the contrast.

Strategy: SGC 9.5s often trade for significantly less than PSA 10s despite being virtually identical condition.

BGS (Beckett Grading Services)

Famous for sub-grades. A BGS 9.5 "Gem Mint" was once the gold standard. They are still highly respected, especially for modern autographed cards.

Strategy: Look for "Quad 9.5s" (True Gems). They are arguably better cards than PSA 10s but can be found cheaper.
